FAQ

Here’s a list of some of the most frequently asked questions that should help you get to know R Morris Design. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for here, please don’t hesitate to send me a message!

  • No problem, I’m here to walk you through the whole process so it’s as easy as possible for you.

Before we get to the design phase, we’ll have an in-depth call to discuss your business and what your overall end result needs to be. Based on that information, I can help you make informed decisions on the visual direction before any design work starts.

If you’re just starting to research, DesignRush is a great resource to see what types of website design are out there.

  • I build websites on Squarespace because I love how customizable it is. Squarespace is not just a template website. Far from it. The platform is just a base but each project is completely custom with strategic design and additional coding to make sure each project is as unique as the client and serves their needs in the best way possible.

Squarespace allows me to create and code on a professional level but also makes it easy for my clients to maintain blogs and other elements of their sites without requiring a full-time developer.

  • No, I build your website in my account but once it’s finished and final payments have been received, I transfer full ownership of the site to you. You are responsible for purchasing your own domain name as well as web hosting. As part of finishing each project, I schedule a call to review everything, show you how to use key features of your site as well as walk you through the process of connecting your domain and web hosting. If you choose, you can leave me on your account as an administrator if future work is required but this is not a requirement.

  • I’m pretty easy to get along with :) But just to make sure, every project starts with a free discovery call that allows us to discuss your project and make sure we’re both on the same page before any commitments are made.

I’ve been working as a designer professionally for the past 13 years in everything from record labels to, ad agencies and insurance marketing so I bring a broad range of experience and expertise that I’m excited to share with you.

If either of us decides that we aren’t a great fit, no problem. It was nice to meet you and best of luck to you!

  • Yes! There are two ways to approach this depending on your project and will be discussed and agreed upon before starting your project.

Option #1 - The majority of the copywriting is done by you but I offer copy support throughout the project. At the beginning of each project, I send a copy guide to each client to help with the copy planning and will offer suggestions and minor edits as we move through the project to ensure the flow of the website is working and easily understandable for the target audience.

#2 - The copywriting is done by us. We write the copy for the website, all you have to do is approve it. This process requires a bit more time and financial commitment depending on the size of your website and how much copy it requires. Once the requirements are clear, we’ll write the copy and send it to you for revision. 3 rounds of revisions are included in the project price. Additional revisions will be billed at an hourly rate.

  • Yes! I personally don’t work on branding but I have a brand design partner who truly loves branding and can create a brand you’ll love. We work closely together to establish a solid branding plan and ensure that brand consistency is implemented on your new website and showcases exactly who you are.

If branding is required for your project, this will be determined and built into one package for you to include both brand development and web design and development. All brand work is completed before any web design work can be started.

  • I can provide some free stock photos from websites like Unsplash and Pixels. This is a great solution if your project needs a few extra photos to compliment your existing brand but specific content, like product shots, headshots, and other brand-specific images must be provided by you.

Good quality images that highlight you, your brand, and your products are a big factor in creating a successful website and building trust with your target audience. If you don’t have good-quality photos currently, this should be a priority before starting your website project.

  • I’m here to help and guide you through the process so it’s both easy and productive. But there are ways you can also make sure we get the best results possible. Before projects begin, some tasks must be completed by the client, like providing copy, branding, and other content for the website. A project will not begin until these things are provided by the client. I provide reminders and prompts to make this process easier leading up to your project start date.

Because each project is slotted into a 3-8 week time frame, I also ask that clients make sure they are available during their allotted project booking weeks. This makes the revision process and launching of the site much easier. If you know you have vacation or other heavy commitments scheduled at a certain time, it’s best to schedule your project around these and book your project slot at a quieter time in your schedule.

  • Yes, this is possible. This is something we can discuss during your free discovery call. This will help me determine the specific scope of your project.

  • Bookings depend on how full our project calendar is at your time of booking but most projects can be scheduled to start within 4-6 weeks. A deposit must be received to confirm and reserve your place in the project calendar.

  • This does depend on your needs.

Web design only - I book web design projects in 2-3 week blocks so your new site should be ready to launch in less than a month from the time we start the project. This 3-week timeline is based on projects where clients have provided copy, brand, and image assets. Total project time ~ 2-3 weeks.

Copywriting + Web design - depending on the level of content your site requires, this process could take 1-2 weeks and must be completed before any site design starts. Total project time ~ 5 weeks.

Branding + Copywriting + Web design - brand development can add 2-4 weeks to the process. Because brand development also is heavily tied to your brand messaging, tone and look and feel, branding must be planned before copywriting and web design can start. Total project time ~ up to 8 weeks.

  • I take a limited amount of bookings at a time to make sure each project gets the attention it deserves. Whether my team is creating your branding and/or copy or you are providing all assets yourself, projects start dates are planned to start after all website assets and content is assembled so I have all of the pieces of the design puzzle before I start to design and build your website.

  • If you are providing copy, images, and brand content (logos, colours, icons, etc), these things must be received by me before starting your project. I book projects to begin on a Monday so content would need to be provided by Friday the week before your project booking.

If the content is not received by that time, your project will be rescheduled in the next available time slot.

  • A 25% deposit of the total project price is required to book your project and reserve your project start date. 50% of the project price is due on the date or your scheduled project start date. The remaining 25% percent of the total project price is due at the end of the project and before full ownership of the website is handed over to you.

  • A ‘Section’ is one block of content on your webpage. You can think of it as one paragraph. It is separate from the content before and after but a continuation of the overall message. Sections often contain an image, a CTA (Call to Action) button, and, up to 300 words.

‘Pages’ are full pages on your website made up of sections. This includes things like your primary landing page, services page, contact page, etc. One page can contain up to 20,000 words and up to 50 images. Pages exceeding a 20,000-word count and image count will be considered as a second page. Each additional page will be determined by word count.

  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the creation of information that Google and other browsers use to organize and include a website in search results. There are a number of ways that browsers collect this information and it’s always changing. The basic SEO included in all RMD packages is setting up meta-data information on images and page descriptions, optimizing image sizes and content so websites load quickly, and optimizing the design for mobile. Each of these things helps to improve SEO.

SEO is a larger marketing strategy so if you want to include things like Keywords to help your website get found, this is something that needs to be included in the copywriting phase of the project before any web design starts.

R Morris Design does not offer a custom SEO strategy at this time.
